SeattleChanne Frequently Asked Questions

Is art therapy right for me? I'm not really artistic. Many people are afraid of their own creative expression, but please don't let that stop you. I know you probably haven’t drawn since elementary school. We aren’t looking for masterpieces. The value is in the experience of making the art. For more information on art therapy check out the video to the left or these links.

Is art therapy just for kids? The process of making art and discussing it with a trained therapist is often transformative. Most of my clients are adults looking for a deeper therapeutic process than talk therapy alone can often provide.

Will my health insurance benefits cover art therapy? Health insurance plans commonly cover treatment by licensed mental health counselors. For further details see my Rates page.

Do you help students looking for information about art therapy? Due to the growing interest in art therapy, I often receive requests and questions from students of all ages interested in learning more about art therapy for research or further career development. If you are interested in talking with me about art therapy I would be happy to speak with you. Please first read the great resource: Malchiodi, C.A. (2006), Art Therapy Sourcebook, New York: Guildford.

Where can I find an internship or volunteer in therapeutic arts? Art with Heart: www.artwithheart.org/ Arts Corp: http://www.artscorps.org/

How can I find out more about the Master's in Art Therapy program? If you are interested in learning more about the Antioch University Seattle program, please plan to attend the quarterly Open House.
