I work with adults, children, and adolescents specializing in anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, postpartum & parenting issues, and GLBTQ issues. I offer short and long term individual counseling using traditional talk, art and somatic based therapy methods. No art is experience necessary.
The focus of my work is to help you address life issues through art therapy. I'd like to help you find the helpful and knowing artists that lives within you, within all of us. By a blending of creativity, education, compassion and encouragement, I hope to help you feel more grounded in your life.
Through open dialogue, we will identify repeating patterns that have informed your life choices with the goal of finding new ways of being that support the life you want to live.
People often ask “what will I do in an art therapy session?” "I'm not artistic, is this really for me?" Absolutely. Art therapy is for everyone.
We might begin the session with you creating an image on the statement "How I felt this week..." Other examples of materials we might use include: collage, sculpture, mandalas, Polaroid portraits, markers, dolls, mask-making, found art assemblage. . . the possibilities are near limitless.
As you are comfortable, we can use the art as a jumping off point for our session. The art you make might surprise you or cause you to see things differently. Because art transcends words, triggering different parts of the brain and subconscious, you may find that you are able to reach a new depth of understanding never experienced before - even if you've tried years of talk therapy in the past.
